Informational Meeting on 3/31
The ACLU of Union High School, or ACLU-UHS, is a student-led club affiliated with the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Washington. We focus on promoting awareness, discussion, and action around civil liberties utilizing education, discussion, and events.
Any current student at Union High School is welcome to join. We are open to all students, regardless of backgrounds, or views.
Students in 9th or 10th grade are required by the District to get parent/guardian approval before officially joining a club.
No. The club (and the ACLU in general) is completely nonpartisan. This means we are not tied to any political party and welcomes many different viewpoints. Members are expected to be respectful and thoughtful of different perspectives inside and out of the club.
We focus on civil rights and liberties, which can involve current, real-world, issues. However, we are not affiliated with any political party and want to create a space for informed and respectful discussions rather than debate.
We will host:
Discussions on current civil liberties issues
'Know Your Rights' education
Events, campaigns, and awareness programs
and more
We will meet every Tuesday during lunch in Room 136, starting March 31st.
We understand that students have many other activities and clubs. Attendance is not required, but is strongly recommended!
The ACLU of Union High School does not collect any membership fees. However, school rules may require attending students to have purchased an ASB card or sticker.
Members are expected to:
Follow the Club Constitution (once it's put in place)
Uphold the ideals of the ACLU: to create a more perfect union beyond one person, party, or side, and to defend the rights of all people nationwide
Engage respectfully and peacefully with others, inside and outside the club
Not at all! The club is open to all students at all levels. Whether you're brand new or already interested in these topics, you're encouraged to join.
You can join this club at any time by attending a meeting or contacting us.
